Day 2 | Arrival in London → Oxford

1:20 PM (England time)

Our plane to Dulles was on time. We had a planned 6 hour layover. This turned into 8 hours, because we spent 2 in our plane seats on the tarmac waiting for weather to clear up so that we could fly out. In the end, we arrived in London at around 8:20 AM, England time. (02:20, home-time). Being a nurse, I had a hard time sitting in that seat for 9 hours with only a quick hop-skip and a jump across the aisle to the bathroom to stretch. However, we both managed to watch Deadpool 2, so that’s good news. You’re welcome, Canada.

On arrival to the airport, we were shuffled off the plane, down the stairs to the tarmac, to a bus, which took us to the airport. Then we moseyed our way through customs, then to the bus that would take us to Oxford. We happened to run into one of Adam’s coworkers (Austin) while we were waiting for the bus, so I was able to meet him. I then fell asleep on the way to Oxford, but it was short-lived.

Finally, we arrived in Oxford. We had a quick snack at Caffè Nero at Gloucester Green. The employee shirts stated, “Best espresso this side of Milan.” Adam had a macchiato, and has since verified the aforementioned statement to be true.

Said goodbye to Austin, then grabbed a cab and headed over to the hotel.

Guess what, Lily…we have HORSES! On three sides of the property!

They don’t have any garden-view rooms cleaned at the moment, so we are currently hanging out in the lounge until one gets cleaned. Then it’s lights out…at least so that we can survive the evening!

After a few hours for a nap, we met up with Austin again for dinner. It was a nice 25 minute jaunt on a path that crossed the river a few times. We went to The Punter, on recommendation from a random person that Austin met at his hotel. Food was delicious, and dessert was amazing!

We all shared a charcuterie board. The focaccia was amazing!

Combining chocolate and maple syrup seemed weird, but we were all impressed.

As of tomorrow, Adam gets to work all day, and I get to navigate the city of Oxford on my own.

We’re hoping to have more pictures from here on out…since we will be more awake, and, moving forward, not dragging as much luggage around with us.

Total steps: 13,205
