New York City

NYC | Day 1 | Arrival

Unfortunately, today’s blog, and pictures, are minimal. We headed out of Minneapolis around 2:45 this afternoon. Once we hit NYC (we flew into LaGuardia), we caught a Lyft to our hotel in Manhattan. We’re hanging out on the SE side of the the borough.

Two things that we learned on the drive to the hotel:

1. New Yorkers use their blinkers.
2. Stop lights here in the city aren’t even a suggestion, they seem to fall more along the lines of subtle hints.
Oh…I learned a third thing: I’m so glad that we didn’t rent a car.

Once we dropped off the luggage, Adam and I decided it was time to get some food. Considering we figured out on our ride over that we are in Chinatown, we tried to find something along those lines…it ended up being Japanese, but it was delicious nonetheless!

Ajisen Ramen is where we ended up for dinner. It was easy on the wallet, considering what we expected to be spending here in the city, and it was delicious as well!

Adam opted for the Spicy Beef Ramen.
I went Plain Jane and chose the Chicken Teriyaki Ramen.
This sign was outside the front door of the restaurant. Bonus points if you understand the reference (no cheating!). Hint: It’s an Adam thing; I had no clue what it was.

There is a crepes place a few doors down from dinner (and it looked amazing). Hopefully it will make our we-went-here list another day. We filled up on dinner instead.

On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at a liquor store to pick up some wine. This is the first time that I’ve been in a liquor store where you’re trapped in the middle in a little box, and then look behind all of the glass to pick out what you want, and pay under/around the glass.

We’re hoping Mother Nature decides to not make the two-straight-weeks of Minnesota rain follow us out here, the way the weather is currently being predicted. We’re looking forward to tomorrow!

  1. The liquor store story reminds me of the McDonalds down town Detroit. It is interesting getting a Happy Meal there with all the plexiglass protections!

Have a great time in the Big Apple!
