We originally planned on starting the day in Central Park until the rain came, and then we would book it into the Metropolitan Museum of Art. However, it started raining by the time we left the hotel. Despite being on the subway for travel, the 4 or 5 total blocks of walking in the rain still resulted in both of our shoes being soaked and wet jeans. Safe to say that I was a bit grumpy for a while.
We dawdled around the Greek and Roman rooms only to realize by the time we finished that we covered hardly any area in the museum in the grand scheme of things. Looks like we will be making another trip or two back over our time here to cover some more ground.
Once we finished most of Greece and Rome, we headed up to Contemporary and Modern art in the hopes of seeing Van Gogh (for me). We originally planned on going to MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) since they have Starry Night. Turns out they’re closed until the 21st for renovations (so dumb).
While we did find a LOT of Van Gogh (much to my happiness), many of the others that had rooms or parts of rooms devoted to them included Monet, Matisse, O’Keefe, Picasso (Picass-who?), Cezanne, Rousseau, Manet, Seurat, Pissarro, Rousseau, and Degas. Forgive me, I’m sure I’m missing a lot of accents over some letters in there…It is also necessary to point out that Degas a lot of art by Degas in the Met.
It is important to note that we skipped out of the museum for about an hour to scamper and get some food. We found a little hole-in-the-wall place, Don Filippo’s Pizza, that was pretty neat. If only we’d had time for dessert! The return sent us up to Van Gogh and some other modern art.
After the Met kicked us out for the day, we headed through Central Park on our way down to 30 Rock. While we saw a few additional statues or monuments besides what I’m about to show you, these were some of our favorites.
Once we got there, we made a pit-stop for some food and a drink before heading upstairs. The had a fun little bar/grill on the underground level called Bill’s Bar & Burger. We opted for the “Junk Fries” off of the apps menu (fries, bacon-chili, pulled pork, cheese, chives, and sour cream). Yes, it was delicious.
Once we’d wasted enough time addressing our hanger again, it was finally dark enough out to head up to the Top of the Rock.
We found a cute little cafe/convenience store on the way home where I could grab some hot chocolate. They may have picked on me for asking for some ice cubes after I burned my tongue twice…
This concludes are adventures for today. Please tune in for tomorrow’s episode!
Love love love Top of the Rock. Excellent pics!
